Digital Villages: The "Digital Interface" Between Youth and Rural Revitalization
Hello, everyone!
Today, I’d like to talk to you about a "digital code" that is transforming rural China—the development of digital villages. General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized that digital villages represent a strategic direction for rural revitalization, serving as a key driver to harness the opportunities of digitization, networking, and smart technology to advance the modernization of agriculture, rural areas, and farmers. As university students and postgraduates of the new era, we are not only "digital natives" but also should become "builders" of digital villages.
I. Digital Villages: The "New Engine" of Rural Revitalization
Digital villages are not just about "farming with smartphones" or "selling goods via livestreams." Rather, they represent a systemic transformation that uses data as a bridge to redefine agricultural productivity, reshape rural governance, and reinvent the way farmers live.

In industry, smartphones now manage vast fields, IoT enables greenhouses to "think," and Beidou navigation ensures "zero-error" precision in farm machinery operations—turning traditional "weather-dependent farming" into "weather-informed cultivation."
In governance, villagers in Changxing, Zhejiang, complete medical insurance updates in five minutes at a government service kiosk, while Anhui’s "one-stop digital village network" eliminates the need for in-person visits to provincial offices, narrowing the gap between urban and rural services.
In daily life, digital village officials in Sichuan’s Cangxi County use livestreams to send their emerald pears nationwide, 300,000 village-level delivery stations link "farm to table" supply chains, and new professions like "smart farmers," "agri-entrepreneurs," and "rural operation specialists" are flourishing.
Behind these changes lie a robust technological foundation—5G coverage in 90% of administrative villages and 322 million rural internet users—supported by policies like the Digital Village Construction Guidelines 1.0 and 2.0, all driven by the mission to "let farmers share in the dividends of digitization."
II. Youth: The "Key Variable" in Digital Villages
The "digital arteries" of rural China are now in place, but the "last mile" of innovation and application awaits our generation to take the baton.
We can be:
"Tech Enablers": Applying AI, big data, and IoT to refine smart farming algorithms and develop rural governance apps, ensuring data "runs accurately and creates value."
"Pioneers of New Models": Using digital skills like short videos, livestreaming, and community management to unlock the potential of rural culture, tourism, and intangible heritage, turning "local specialties" into "internet sensations."
"Governance Innovators": Leveraging digital thinking to enhance public services—designing "rural digital archives" or "remote tutoring platforms for left-behind children"—to make technology more humane.
III. From "Digital Divide" to "Digital Prosperity"
By 2035, China aims to "significantly narrow the urban-rural digital divide" and "markedly elevate farmers’ digital literacy." This is not just a technological goal but a people-centered development promise.
Digital villages are not about "transplanting urban tech to rural areas" but about "expressing rural needs digitally." It requires us to listen deeply—to elders needing simpler interfaces, farmers craving precise market data, and villages demanding equitable public services. Every line of code we write, every innovation we pioneer, could become a "digital key" to transforming rural futures.
In closing, let me share General Secretary Xi’s words as our mutual inspiration: "Make agriculture a promising industry, farming an attractive vocation, and rural areas beautiful homelands where people thrive." The blueprint for digital villages is drawn—and we are the "digital artists" of this vision. May we, the youth, harness digital innovation to inscribe our generation’s answer at the "digital interface" of rural revitalization!
Thank you!
